PARIS – The FIA stated on Tuesday that it will open an inquiry into a potential conflict of interest involving Mercedes team head Toto Wolff and his wife Susie, who works for Formula One Management (FOM).

The FIA stated it was “aware of media speculation centered on the allegation of information of a confidential nature” being supplied to an F1 team principal via a member of FOM personnel, without mentioning any names or teams.

“The FIA compliance department is looking into the matter,” the FIA noted in a news release.

Wolff, the Mercedes team’s boss, and his wife Susie Wolff, managing director of the F1 Academy, the women’s competition run by the FOM, the entity that owns the sport’s commercial rights, have come under scrutiny.

“We take note of the FIA’s generic statement this evening, which responds to unsubstantiated allegations from a single media outlet,” a representative for Toto Wolff’s team said in a statement.

“The team has received no communication from the FIA compliance department on this topic.

“We wholly reject the allegation in the statement and associated media coverage, which wrongly impinges on the integrity and compliance of our team principal.”
