JOHANNESBURG – The Johannesburg High Court has denied the City of Joburg’s request for leave to appeal a ruling that nullified Floyd Brink’s appointment as city manager.

The same court ruled earlier this month that Brink’s appointment was illegal and unlawful.

The claim is that Brink was appointed to the job in February without the required vetting.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Johannesburg, which filed the application challenging Brink’s appointment, applauded the high court’s ruling.

“Our goal has always been to safeguard the citizens of Johannesburg against the illegal conduct that this ANC-EFF-PA doomsday coalition is so well-known for,” said DA caucus leader Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku. This demonstrates the government’s commitment to legality and the rule of law.”
